Another perspective to this increased demand can be that the harsh sunlight, dry weather and hectic lifestyle has also been affecting the residents of the Kingdom, while leading to several types of skin diseases, not the least of which is cancer. Data published by the WHO in May 2014 revealed that skin disease deaths in Saudi Arabia accounted for 1.08% of the total deaths in the country. One of the growing problems has been skin allergies, treatments for which are being constantly developed. Allergy is a damaging way in which our immune system reacts to any substance to which it is hypersensitive. The most common problem being faced was itchiness, with 79% of the women suffering from discomfort caused by itchy skin. 1.Hives: From antibiotics to plants, there are variety of allergens that can cause redness or skin colored itchy bumps or welts, which can appear on any part of the body. Hives are usually categorised as acute urticaria, which lasts for a maximum of six weeks and is usually caused by exposure to an allergen or due to an infection. Chronic urticaria, on the other hand, lasts for more than six weeks but is a rare condition. 2.Contact Dermatitis: This is the most common skin allergy, which we all might have experienced at some or the other point in our lives. It is a red rash, with itchiness, that appears on the skin following the use of a new cosmetic product or washing detergent. 3.Atopic Dermatitis: This is a common type of eczema that is more likely in people with a family history of allergies. It is, however, more common in children. The symptoms usually include red, itchy and dry skin, and sometimes fluid filled bumps are also observed. 4.Latex Allergy: As the name says, this condition occurs when the skin comes in contact with latex products, such as balloons or medical gloves. Runny nose, itching and sometimes chest tightness and difficulty in breathing are some of the symptoms of this condition. The best way to prevent an outbreak is to identify the substances that can trigger your allergy and then try to avoid them.
