There are few things as empowering – and simple – as giving yourself a bikini wax at home. Here’s presenting 5 steps to follow. For those women who like to maintain a fuzz-free bikini line, regular trips to the salon become a regular feature of life. But many women find the experience degrading and embarrassing. You have to lie down spread-eagled on a table while the beautician examines the growth and then applies hot wax to it. You can get minor burns if the wax is too hot. If you have put off bikini waxing because you find the experience too weird, why not do it yourself at home? If you decide to do biking waxing by yourself at home, make sure you take the day off (you’ll see why in Point #5 below) and – 1 Make sure the hair is the right length for removal. Aim for just the right length. Normally, about ¼ inch of hair growth is fine. Shorter length than this will not adhere to the wax properly, and longer hair can get tangled and become extremely painful to pull. Trim the hair to the desired length before you proceed. 2 Clean the skin. This is important – it ensures that you get a clean bikini line and the hair is pulled off easily. Dried sweat and dead skin cells get trapped in the hair, making it rough. Wash the area with mild soap and water. Dry thoroughly before applying wax. 3 Apply the wax strip/hot wax on the hair. Bikini waxing is relatively simpler when you use cold wax strips. Just apply the strip on the hair as directed and pull away – no mess, no fuss. But you can just as easily use hot wax on your bikini line – be sure to heat the wax to the right temperature and smear it on the hair evenly. Now apply the cloth strip on it and pull off in one swift motion. If you are using hot wax, it is better to use ready spa wax kits that have a wax heater to maintain the wax temperature. 4 Apply a soothing lotion after waxing. Once the bikini waxing is done, you can clean the residual wax using water or the cleaning wipe provided with the cold wax strips. You will feel that the skin is red and sore. Gently apply a soothing serum or lotion and do not pinch or prod the skin. 5 Ditch underwear for a day. The skin is going to be tender for a while, so it is better to rest and not wear underwear till the next day (this is why we recommended taking a day off). Wear a cotton dress or loose cotton pants that let the skin breathe and heal. You will feel good as new the next day!
