Some grooming habits are for scoring brownie points, but others are for your good health. We list 7 essential grooming habits to have on your list.
Personal grooming forms a vital part of looking and feeling good. But most people are unaware of some grooming essentials that can actually keep them healthy, such as – 1 Removing body hair. Primitive man had a fur-like covering of body hair, which reduced significantly over many cycles of evolution. Today, most people sport a fuzzy covering of body hair on the limbs, underarms and in the pubic area. While purists argue that hair is essential to trap dirt and create a protective covering on the skin, it is also true that the body hair can trap sweat and end up clogging the skin. This is why hair removal is important. Besides, hair-free skin is pleasing to the eye and touch. 2 Using face wash twice a day. A greasy face can create a poor impression about your overall hygiene. It is important to wash your face not just for reasons of good appearance, but also to keep the facial skin supple and clean. Washing the face with face washing gel can keep acne, dullness and fine lines at bay. 3 Wiping the armpits clean twice a day. Every person sweats in hot weather, and the sweat tends to accumulate in the folds of the skin. If not cleaned on time, the dried sweat can get exposed to air and give off an odour. If you tend to sweat excessively, keep a spare flannel in your bag and wipe your armpits at least twice a day. Follow up with a good anti-perspirant roll on or spray. 4 Wearing clean shoes and socks. This seems like such an obvious point – yet so many people are guilty to using smelly socks and shoes. The problem often begins with sweaty feet, where the sweat gets absorbed by the socks and is then transferred to the shoes. If the shoes do not dry adequately before becoming exposed to moisture again, they can become smelly and rife with bacteria. Do the wise thing – don’t wear the same pair of shoes on two consecutive days so that they can dry completely. And do not wear the same pair of socks without a wash first! 5 Washing the hair thrice a week. Along with hair removal to keep the skin clean, comes regular hair washing to keep the scalp disease-free. The scalp tends to sweat quite a lot, and the sweat dries up on the hair follicles. Meanwhile, the hair is exposed to harsh sunlight and dirt, which can cause dandruff to accumulate. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo at least twice a week, and follow up with a good conditioner. 6 Keeping the nails short and clean. Dirty fingernails and toenails are a huge turn-off! If you eat using your hands, the dirt trapped in your fingernails can enter your stomach via your mouth. Meanwhile, overgrown toenails trap dirt in the corners. Soon, these areas become rife with germs and may cause infections. Always clip your nails short, and file the corners so that dirt will not accumulate. 7 Not using the same used clothes twice. Body odour is a big ‘No’, whether you are at home or at work. You will find that though your sweat does not smell, using the same sweaty clothes over and over again can announced your arrival from far away! Always put used clothes in the wash – resist the idea of letting the sweat dry before you use the clothes again.
