Waxing is one of the best hair removal methods today. It removes hair from the root and does not let it return for a few weeks. However, most women are wary of getting a bikini wax, and even more hesitant to do it themselves. But it’s easy, once you prep for it correctly.
How to wax the bikini line: 1 Sanitise your instruments. There are several chances of contracting an infection with waxing, especially if the implements you use are not clean or 100% disinfected. If you are using hot wax, you will need a blunt knife to apply the wax and cloth strips to remove the wax. Boil water in a shallow pan and dip the knife in it, taking care not to melt it off. Now remove the knife from the water and let it air dry completely. Meanwhile, open a fresh pack of strips – do not use older cloth strips. You will not need these precautions if you use cold wax strips. 2 Numb the skin. The bikini skin is delicate and more sensitive than skin on other areas of the body. Thus, waxing in this area causes more discomfort. If you have a lower threshold for pain or if you are not used to waxing in the bikini zone, it is better to apply a numbing cream or an ice pack to desensitize the skin before waxing. Or you can pop a painkiller tablet at least 30 minutes prior to waxing. 3 Apply the wax. Make sure that the wax is heated to just the right temperature and not overheated or under-heated. Overheated wax can cause burns, and under-heated wax does not stick to the hair properly. Apply the hot wax evenly on the skin and pull off the strip in one motion. If you are using a cold wax strip, simply warm the strip between your hands before application. Now apply on the skin and pull off. 4 Clean up with wipes. Though cold wax strips are mostly not messy, there is every chance of some amount of wax still sticking to the skin. Wipe it off using the wax wipes provided, and then rinse the skin with cool water. Hot wax, on the other hand, always leaves a sticky feeling. Wash the skin with cold water after you are done. 5 Keep the area cool. Waxing is mildly traumatic to the skin, and there may be some amount of redness and soreness post-waxing. Use an ice pack to reduce the soreness, and apply moisturiser to the area to calm the skin down. Wear loose cotton pants for at least 24 hours after waxing, and do not expose the bikini line to direct sunlight for a couple of days.
