![]() Sagging, aged skin can be a thing of the past with good skin care and a timely shot of Botox. Here’s how to deal with the problem. Every person wants youthful, firm skin that belies their age. But more often than not, the skin begins to sag and look old by the time the mid-30s roll around. If this is happening to you, you need to act fast to prevent permanent sagging. What causes your skin to sag? A number of factors cause skin sag. The most common cause is aging. Post 30 years, the skin begins to lose its natural elasticity. Laugh lines, crow’s feet and under-eye bags become more common. This happens because the skin is unable to repair damaged cells as quickly as it used to. So the skin becomes looser, leading to sagging. Another cause is prolonged exposure to strong sunlight. In a country like ours, UV rays can wreak havoc on the skin’s cellular structure. Apart from tanning and age spots, sunlight can cause the skin to become loose. Abrupt weight loss causes the skin to sag quite a bit. People who indulge in crash diets or hard exercise to lose weight, suffer from sagging skin. Even those who undergo tummy tucks or bariatric bypass surgeries to lose weight, find loose folds of skin on their bodies. These may have to be surgically corrected at a later date. There are also several myths attached to skin sagging. The most common one is that running causes the skin to sag. This is not true – exercise does not contribute to skin sag, but heavy weight loss does. You can do facial exercises to firm up the facial skin. Another myth is that the facial skin sags if one habitually sleeps on their belly. There is no evidence to back this claim. How to treat sagging skin There are a number of things you can do to reduce the skin sag, or to remove it altogether. Facial massage: A facial massage once a fortnight improves blood circulation and tightens the skin. The rhythmic massaging movements improve the skin’s capacity to remove toxins. The skin gets hydrated and is better able to cope with daily stress. Facial exercises: There are a number of facial exercises you can do to improve the skin’s elasticity and keep it from developing fine lines. The exercises improve blood circulation and aid cell repair. Botox shots: Skin that has recently started to develop slight looseness and fine lines can be set right with a shot of Botox. You can get a shot of Botox in Dubai’s leading skin care centres. Botox (Botulinum Toxin) is a chemical that is injected into the problem area in tiny doses. It freezes the sagging skin and underlying muscle, thereby reducing the appearance of loose skin. When getting a shot of Botox in Dubai, be sure to approach a reputed dermatologist. Healthy diet: Food rich in Vitamins, protein and calcium aid cellular repair and restoration. Also make sure to drink at least one litre of water every day. Hydrated skin is better able to repair itself, and is less likely to age prematurely.
